Effective communication between clinicians and their patients has a positive impact not only on clinical outcomes but also on their experience of care. Communication skills are a core clinical skill, which can be taught by a number of methods. After clinical competence, being valued and treated as an individual is most highly rated by patients [ 1 , 2 ]. Consequently, ensuring that HCPs have the skills to communicate in effective and satisfying ways is a vital part of quality cancer care. Sadly, the message that is coming across from patients is that we are not getting this right yet and there are many aspects of our communication, which could be improved. Ineffective communication between HCPs and patients and their families remains one of the most frequently cited reasons for poor experience of care [ 3 ].
For hospitals and health care institutions, ensuring that patients receive proper care takes more than performing procedures and making diagnoses. Communication is a crucial component in all steps of the health care process. Whether it be a clinic accurately sharing patient information with another facility, or a group of doctors, nurses, specialists, and other staff at a hospital discussing how to treat current and incoming patients, the need for concise, effective communication is always present in the health field. Health care professionals and institutions need to recognize the importance of communication in health care in order to thrive. This shows that better communication methods would benefit both patients and health care providers. Effective communication — both intrahospital and interhospital — is important for health care providers to protect their patients, save on costs, and increase day-to-day operating efficiency.
Communication, as a key element in providing high-quality health care services, leads to patient satisfaction and health. The present Cross sectional, descriptive analytic study was conducted on 70 nurses and 50 patients in two hospitals affiliated to Alborz University of Medical Sciences, in Two separate questionnaires were used for nurses and patients, and the reliability and validity of the questionnaires were assessed. In both groups of nurses and patients, nurse-related factors mean scores of 2. Despite the attention of nurses and patients to communication, there are some barriers, which can be removed through raising the awareness of nurses and patients along with creating a desirable environment. We recommend that nurses be effectively trained in communication skills and be encouraged by constant monitoring of the obtained skills.

Effective communication is of the utmost importance when delivering healthcare. Without it, the quality of healthcare would be impaired. Healthcare costs and negative patient outcomes would increase. There are multiple components to effective communication in a healthcare setting: healthcare literacy, cultural competency and language barriers. If any one of these components is compromised, effective communication does not occur.
