Thank you for your suggestions. I used Acrobat to open the pdf document from the Wall Street Journal, and checked the Fonts tab lots of entries; didn't understand them and the Security tab it was not encrypted. This problem appears to relate only to recent articles I have downloaded from the WSJ.
